Re: Internet/satphone Weather

A nice simple one is Seabreeze - seven day forecasts that I always find reasonably accurate on the Qld coast, and allow you to look at current observations at the same page. Predict Wind is good too and possibly more accurate but takes a bit more manipulating to get a view of where you are and where...

Re: Pancake Creek in a northerly..

Scary stuff. Sounds a lot like a day I had in 2009 coming south with Bushytales - I left Keppel heading for Pancake in a nice 10knot breeze - spinnaker up sitting on the foredeck with the autopiilot on enjoying a beautiful day. Wind started to build from the north all day until by mid afternoon it w...

Re: Shorthanded setups - can tech help?

Agree absolutely with 44c - the best thing for short handed sailing is a self tacker. Put the main traveller in the middle and you just turn the boat with no sheet work at all. Gybing becomes the only time when you need a few hands and with practice this is easy to master too. On a seperate note - h...

Re: Conversion from saildrive to outboard?

I think 20HP outboards is verging on too small for that boat. I have a 44' Schionning with 2 Honda Bigfoot 20 4 strokes. Pushing into a headwind I run out of go very quickly - only making a few knots in anything over 20knot headwind. Also the thrust in reverse is very poor making it difficult to pul...

Good to see this great boat straight back out there where it belongs. Well done to all involved.

Re: BIPOLAR

Good to see you up this way Michael - if you are in Moreton Bay at all and need a hand with anything let me know by PM. I can run you round by car or whatever in return for a good look over your boat! For the night time gybe issues - do you fly a flag at all off the stern or side rail? I find this t...

Re: 2014 Brisbane to Gladstone Race - 50th Anniversary

And we're off! We actually had a great sail today which was a surprise given the light forecast. Some boats sailing out of expected positions! If anyone wants to follow the trackers it is live on Yellowbrick - access through their site or follow the tracker links on the Multihull Yacht Club webpage ...
