Re: BIPOLAR

Thanks for the kind offers, guys. We will be leaving the boat here at the Gold Coast and returning to melbourne and coming back up in July . . Unfortunately we can only get away for a week or two at a time so it means coming up for some short cruises before having a more leisurely cruise back south ...

Re: BIPOLAR

http://i61.tinypic.com/11qr85h.jpg The issue of sailing around the mooring or anchor is now a non issue for us. The incident of dragging the mooring was in a large part due to it being a for and aft mooring not allowing the boat to swing into the wind, partly due to us not realising the masts had t...

Re: BIPOLAR

Hi Groper
There are no mainsheet tracks, the mainsheet goes from the boom to a swivel fitting on the cockpit roof then down through the roof support to a winch on the cockpit coaming

Re: BIPOLAR

You are correct Groper, the mast to boom angle needs to be controllable. The sail exerts a lot of pressure on the trailing edge of the mast and unless the mast rotation is restrained the mast would tend to rotate until it's up against the boom. I have what might be called a spanner from the mast tra...

Re: BIPOLAR

I think we've finally got the rig sorted out and can spend time sailing instead of fixing or changing things. It became apparent early on that we were way over powered and I was worried about being caught out in strong winds and not being able to control the boat. So I bit the bullet and took the ma...

Re: BIPOLAR

Bottom bearing. Inside ring machined s/steel self aligning. Outside machined ring of acetal all held together by a ring of glass. The bearing is glued to the post and bolts to the bottom of the mast. http://i42.tinypic.com/fjmc6d.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/2uel9jm.png Top bearing is a metal self ali...

Re: BIPOLAR

I didn't set out wanting to pioneer anything. At the start of the build I expected that I'd be following after the other bi-rig builders, but it hasn't turned out that way. Despite the odd set back and headache concerning the bi-rig setup it has been the most interesting and satisfying part of the b...

Re: BIPOLAR

The boom sheeting consists of a single line from a winch on the cockpit coaming up through the cockpit roof support to a swivelling block on the roof then to the boom end. The sheet is double ended, continuing from the boom end into the boom to an electric winch inside the boom to give a limited adj...

Re: BIPOLAR

Our second sailing outing ended up being a series of mishaps. First the dinghy blew away before we even left the mooring, had an encounter with a pier after picking up some passengers, lost the dinghy off the davits on the way out and finally side swiped a channel marker. I think the universe was tr...

Re: BIPOLAR

I couldn't tell you how many degrees rotation, I had a bit of a guess and made the mechanism before the mast were up. The mast needs to rotate a bit more to get a smooth transition from the wing to the sail. It's no big deal, I made the rotation mechanism removable suspecting there might be modifica...
