I remember reading Shane Acton's book Shrimpy about his circumnavigation in an 18ft boat. Just before he left somebody set off in a boat smaller than his. So he chopped six inches off the stern to ensure that his would still be the smallest to circumnavigate. His bed was a quarter berth down the stern that was designed to be three inches longer than him, once he chopped the six inches off it was three inches shorter and he couldn't lie straight all of the way round the world.

He had never sailed before his shakedown cruise!!

He even picked up a girl in the pacific who shared his boat and his shortened berth for several months.

A good read if anyone sees the book - what a character.

personally i reckon attempting to sail anywhere in something that is only 3ft 11inches is actually crazy, and then the amount of gear they cram into these things!!!!!
