Good thinking. You can also keep any mixed but unused paint overnight in a fridge. We have kept paint useable for weeks in a freezer.

Not the fridge you keep food in though!

The trick is - not to get it too cold otherwise condensation becomes an issue.

Well done David , it's a credit to you to keep going through the summer in Cairns and doing a top job too.
makes me feel like guilty moaning about the heat in the shed.
What size torture boards did you use, were they bought off the shelf or did you make them ?
Cheers Dazza

Dazza

The boards, by and large, are not mine but they are a mixture of bought and homemade ranging from 1 metre down to (believe it or not) thumbnail size to get into those hard to get to places.. Some are stiff, some are flexible (Dura-Block, pieces of 10mm foam with velcro stuck to them), some are thin <10mm, some are quite thick (3 pieces of high density foam glued together so about 75mm).

Acutally, I'll lay them out on a table over the weekend and take a photo. You'll be amazed as to how many are used.

Set the thermometer on the duckboard today. It was almost down tools weather. 30C in the shelter where the boat is at 8.00am with 85% humidity. Got to a tad over 40C in the shelter with the humidity still around 65%. Lost count how many bottles of water i drank.

Yeah, keep the lid on as much as possible, keeps the water out.

Bought the plans from Mick from ROAM who also built one. The plans give you a step by step process to build one and were easy to follow. The booms are not engineered but are being used on 5 cats - the biggest being ROAM's. I understand It was originally built for Big Wave Rider (46' Chamberlain) who really gave it a testing during his around Australia record (particulalrly the section from WA to southern Tassie). No failures on any of them so far. The 2 boats mentioned above are bigger than mine so I thought that was a good enough testing ground for me.

With end of boom sheeting, and no vang, the loads are pretty minimal anyway. Just outhaul loads really.

Hey Dave, hope Debbie doesn't do Cairns, and stays well away!

Bit of a coin toss whether or not to take the tarp off the shelter. As of last night the models had it crossing as a Cat 3 or 4 anywhere from Mission Beach to Bowen. If Mission Beach we can still expect gusts up to 65 knots in which case I will take the tarp off. If Bowen, then it's too far away to worry us.

Waiting for some updates this morning before making the final decision.

Might be a busy day.....
