We are looking at a 12m mast. With the mast located aft of amidships, this still gives plenty of area for the headsails. If the sails are cut with no overlap past the mast, they come out at around 45sqm each.

The mast specified by all yacht spars was a im21R section - 210mmx130mm and was configured with a nested diamond arrangement. Also a forward jumper was used off the single pair of spreaders - which were the type C 70x35mm section.

Im not sure if this is the ideal arrangement - its seems a little too complicated for my liking and i think its got expensive due to the number of hardware items it requires. That is, the number of turnbuckles, attachments, inner diamond stays, forward jumper stays, etc etc... i think it would be cheaper, to go for a heavier mast section and get rid of some of the complexity, reduce the amount of ancillary hardware, and would probably end up cheaper in the end.

Im definitely interested in a 2nd hand rig, if you can put me in touch with Bob or anyone else for that matter, that would be great.

I'll give Bob a ring, see if he wants to sell it.

Failing that, you can build a rig yourself at a pretty reasonable price. Especially if you can weld aluminium, but also even if you have to pay for the welding. Fabricate the bits yourself, get them ready to weld, then take them to a welder. Buy all the rigging wire and hardware etc from Blue Wave. Very good quality and prices.

Bob can design you a rig. He'll keep it simple too. I'm pretty sure the mast he has is from a monohull, so it would need a bit of a redesign anyway.

I'll see if I can talk to him today.

OK called Bob and he's happy to sell the rig. It's 12 metres, was on a Hitch Hiker, so should be pretty close to ideal for you. He says you'd need spreaders, and probably lowers, but they shouldn't be a problem to fit.

I've PM'ed Bob's phone number to you.

I remember this boat from bd.net. Nice project and it should make a great cruiser.

I see you have moved into Fud's berth, which is a lot less walking for your reno, and mine is still empty. I will be back at the end of the month. We are at Havannah Island in the Palm Island group at the moment, will move on to Zoe Bay in a day or so.
Jim.
