making your own rope clutches

Post by northerncat » Sun Mar 09, 2008 9:13 pm

have been checking out the prices of multiple rope clutches late and have been horrified by the prices 378 for a 3 rope clutch, so i have been trying to figure out where im going to get the money from when a guy 3 boats up in the marina showed me his homemade ones, he used deep aluminium channel and made the cam out of 12mm alloy plate, he files the teeth on the clutch and it looks great, im going to take his apart to make a pattern and then make a drawing in cad so i can take it doen to the local waterjet cutters to get a few cut out, ill post a photo later

You are in the wrong business as a teacher, or may be you should be teaching amateur boat builders.

Have to disagree with you James....

Sean is sharing knowledge as does any good educator.

Can't understand where he gets all the energy from, but then again I guess he's not nearing retirement age :(

I'm still stuck constructing a cat house....thank goodness it's not a dog house.....assuming that dogs are larger than cats

I picked up a new Lewmar D2 tripple rope clutch on ebay US for AUD $198 including freight. Just waiting for a double to appear. There are some good deals out there if you keep looking, especially with the exchange rate at the moment.
