Thanks Smooth, good answer, Thought about the PITA factor of more wiring and potential losses and am firming up on a deal for 6x110w@12v panels as a compromise(fit better for my situation too)

out of curiosity i did some numbers on how my system has performed over the last 15 months.
It has produced 3.6 megaWatts total. That works out to 7.8 units a day or about 4.9 hours a day of full output, 1590W system. The panels are tilted to the roofs angle, not sure if that is optimum, but does suffer some shading in the morning and late afternoon.
I think that is pretty good especially as the 15 months spans 2 winters and only 1 summer.
On the boat i will only have 60%,3 not 5 panels, and the panels will be flat but will be a lot further north. The results are most encouraging i think.
