2014 Brisbane to Gladstone Race - 50th Anniversary

Post by Smooth Cruiser » Sat Mar 29, 2014 12:41 pm

I thought it was worth throwing a post up here about this years Brisbane to Gladstone Multihull race. With just under three weeks to go everyone is making their final preparations for what is shaping up to be a great event.

2014 marks the 50th anniversary of the multihull race so there has been a big push to get a large number of entrants which should make for great racing and great socialising before and after the sailing. With naming rights sponsorship of the event from APC Logistics there should be plenty to look forward to.

To help make the anniversary special there will also be a cruise and a rally running in parallel with the race and the hope is to have 50 multihulls sailing to Gladstone across the three fleets.

At this stage the expected race fleet has 17 entrants consisting of the following boats - which represent a great cross section of the Cat 2 compliant ocean racing multihull scene in Australia:

Attitude
Boss Racing
Bulletproof
Catalina
Chillpill
Cut Snake
Fantasia
Hasta La Vista
Lightwave Raider
McMoggy
Morticia
No Problem
Renaissance
Rhythmic
Rushour
Team Australia
Two Tribes

Looking forward to the race!

If anyone wants more info about the race, cruise or rally then contact the host club - Multihull Yacht Club of Queensland.

If anyone wants to follow the race progress there will be a link to the yacht trackers on the MYCQ web page closer to the race start (Easter Friday). Watch the dots move along the screen as you sit strapped into your favourite armchair in your wet weather gear in front of a fan at full speed while someone throws a bucket of cold water over you periodically! As good as being there!

Ah yes - the many many memories of the B2G's I have done (quite a few years ago now).

Including being sent up to the top of the mast off Waddy Point to change the spinnaker halyard block - without dropping the spinnaker and still surfing down waves at 15 to 17 knots.

And of course, with Easter always falling close to a full moon, those fabulous moonlit nights on watch.

Good luck to you and your crew. Hope you have a fast, safe sail.

And we're off! We actually had a great sail today which was a surprise given the light forecast. Some boats sailing out of expected positions! If anyone wants to follow the trackers it is live on Yellowbrick - access through their site or follow the tracker links on the Multihull Yacht Club webpage mycq.org.au
