Brisbane to Vanuatu rally

Post by 44c »

Next year we're thinking about doing this rally to Vanuatu. Seems to be excellent value, as they organise permission to stopover at Chesterfield reef and Huon reef.

Then possibly sail to New Caledonia, and return to Bundaberg by the Port to Port rally.

What I would do join in the sail. It sounds a real beauty and I envy you and the fun that is ahead.

Have a surgeon friend over there at the moment doing a spot of free surgery and he spoke of a sailing group that pop on over every now and then with medical goodies, but mainly support in their endeavours.

Wish I could join in, may well do in retirement...when ever that is (super rules change with every government trying to pilfer their piece of my pie).

James, I met a guy at the Sanctuary Cove boat show a couple of years ago and ended up chatting to him for about an hour about what he does. He put me onto a charity Jo and I want to join once we launch and feel comfortable about crossing oceans. Its called Pacific Yacht Ministries. (Jo and I are not religious and although this is a Christian organisation (Seventh Day Adventist) as the name suggests, it is not overtly religious).

Here is a link, you might find it interesting.

Cheers Paul, unfortunately Catholisism and my yachts wine cellar and home brew may be in conflict with their direction. One of our current members (who has been a little quiet this year) is in the group you mention.

There are two or three yachting groups that go over that way each year that I am told of.

The mob we are associated with are totally non-religiuos (dont sail) but voluteer surgery/medical in Africa (stopped last year - equipment & drugs confiscated at the border) and the Pacific rim region. Volunteers get there own way there and chip in for as little or as much time as they like for a maximum of a week.

We've been in Vanuatu now since early June, getting ready to sail back. There's some fantastic scenery and anchorages here, great diving and snorkelling. weather hasn't been all that great though, with plenty of cloud, wind and rain.

Currently getting ready and weather watching for the sail back to Bundy arriving around 15/10.
